Falling pregnant, the pregnancy and childbirth can be a stressful and emotion-filled time for women and their partners. Many parents or parents-to-be experience high levels of anxiety, troubles with their moods, and may find that aspects of their own childhood or other past experiences take on new importance, and not always in a good way. While this is quite normal, sometimes these feelings and experiences can become distressing, even overwhelming, and it can be hard to know who to turn to for help.
Recent studies suggest that as many as 25% of women will experience post-natal depression. The sad part of this statistic is that so many of them could so easily be helped. The most recent study of therapy effectiveness found that the majority of women were feeling significantly better in as little as 4 weeks as part of a 12 week program.
Kylee Forrest is experienced working with women and couples during their antenatal and post natal period and has worked at the frontline in hospital settings with women during their first and subsequent pregnancies.
